Canton was home to many Civil War soldiers, most of whom go unnoticed today. Help us commemorate their service by visiting the Cherry Hill Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend to place a flower on a Canton soldier’s grave. Flowers will be provided.
In 1868, an organization of Union veterans of the Civil War—the Grand Army of the Republic—established “Decoration Day” as a day where the nation decorated the graves of war dead with flowers. Today. we refer to this day as “Memorial Day.”
